You already received several good replies, so I won't address those issues. But you asked what God wants from you.

If God wants something from you, then God has to let you know what it is. You've been through the Worldwide Church of God and were told what God wants, but now you know they had no more idea than you do. They used the Bible to beat you over the head with what God wants, but many other churches use the same book to determine what God wants, and they all come to different conclusions. Therefore, it should be pretty obvious that the answer is not in the Bible. (For more on this issue, the PT website has a number of articles on the credibility of the Bible.)

But if it isn't in the Bible, then where is it? The answer that I found when confronted with the same question is that it doesn't exist. God has never spoken to me personally nor to anyone I know. Each and every minister that I know, regardless of their claims, have no more answers than I do, and that especially includes all TV evangelists. No church has the answer. No religion has the answer. They are all man-made institutions spouting man-made beliefs.

The best answer I found was something very close to paganism. I was left to conclude that God, if [supply your own pronoun] exists and wants to be worshipped, left us no clue to his existence other than nature itself. The unvarnished beauty of the creation is all we really have to go by, and the only way I know to pay homage is to just enjoy that beauty, take care of it, and when confronted by the stars at night take a deep breath and say, "My God!"

There is no organization, group, fellowship or brotherhood that you can join (or should join) to do this. Simply be aware of what a great blessing life is and don't waste what you have left of it chasing after some phantom god or religion. If there is a devil (and I'm not convinced that there is), then he is the one who invented religion. Nothing in history has done more damage to mankind than religion. We of all people should now be in a position to understand that.

I just received this email message from a longtime friend of mine (and 25-year Worldwide Church of God employee). :)

You would have a fit right now (as are many of the employees are). It seems that the church is handing our huge (I am talking about in the 4 figure range) year end bonuses to ministers, lay pastors, bi-vocationals, but nothing is being given to the employees. We got a 25.00 gift certificate from Trader Joes for Thanksgiving.

We would not have heard about these bonuses, if some of these jerk-off ministers and lay pastors had not gone around bragging about what they got!. Screw the employees who have stood by the church through the last few years. We have always been considered dirt by the higher ups who have walked all over us for decades. While they live rent free in their new homes (parsonage benefits), we struggle along day to day wondering if we will survive another week.

P.S. Please feel free to post this on any and every wcg related board you want to! LOL! It is unbelievable that they think they can pull this off right under the employees noses! For a church that claims to follow the love of Jesus and the giving spirit of Christmas, this is a slap in the face to us all that are still working here.
